Legacy Way eases congestion

It has now been almost two months since the first car drove through the $1.5 billion Legacy Way tunnel, officially opening the tunnel to Brisbane motorists.

After spending the past four years working on the tunnel as part of joint venture Transcity, BMD Constructions is thrilled to see Legacy Way helping motorists travel with ease between the Western Freeway at Toowong and the ICB at Kelvin Grove.

Recently, the tunnel passed its first big test, helping to cut congestion on major roads when schools returned after their June/July break.

On the first day back at school, the RACQ received reports that Milton Road and Coronation Drive were flowing better than usual with more people choosing to use Legacy Way to travel inbound.

These results are a good sign as we move towards finding out how many cars use the tunnel each day. Official counts will be released in October this year.

Legacy Way is projected to take 3,000 cars a day off Milton Road and 7,000 cars a day off Coronation Drive.

It seems the tunnel is off to a great start and we look forward to continuing to follow its progress in the coming months.
