Lynwood Quarry Project Recognised For Community Contribution

26 October 2011 - BMD Constructions has been nominated for the 2011 Mission Australia Local Employer Awards for their commitment to providing local job seekers with employment opportunities.

The awards are a celebration of the support given by Australian employers in giving people a 'fair go' and strive to recognise employers who are willing to overlook and help overcome the challenges that some job seekers face.

The nomination recognises the Lynwood Quarry project for its contribution to the community of Marulan in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales - about 180km south west of Sydney.

BMD has sourced approximately 75% of its project workforce from Marulan and other surrounding area, and is also sourcing materials locally.

The project is currently progressing to schedule. The project is expected to be completed by May, next year.

BMD has also successfully obtained a mine operators licence as part of the contract, and is currently managing the site under two different Safety Management Plans: Mine Regulations (80%) and Occupational Health and Safety Act (20%).

The scope of the project includes:

  • Pad development for stockpiles and process plant
  • Three large dams;
  • 6km Access road
  • a 5km water supply pipeline with a pump station;
  • rail siding construction and design/ construction of associated rail signalling;
  • A heavy haul bridge over live main southern rail line;
  • installation of a conveyor gallery over main southern rail line;
  • A grade separated interchange over Hume Highway;
  • Quarry pit development (blast, strip and crush);
  • All HV/LV/Communications reticulation, including commissioning; and
  • Weighbridge, truck wash, train, truck fuelling stations, workshop, 22Kv switchroom (with termination into Zone Substation).
