Lathams Road Bridge reaches major milestone
24 August 2010 - BMD Constructions recent beam placement at Lathams Road Bridge marked a key milestone for the Peninsular Link project. The Lathams Road Bridge is the first of more than 35 bridges for the project and required the use of a 350 tonne crane, the largest piece of machinery on the project to date.
Linking Melbourne Authority engaged BMD Constructions early in the project to include the Bridge as a means of reducing heavy vehicle traffic on local streets during construction of Peninsular Link.
Peninsula Link is one of several major projects outlined in the Victorian Government's $38 billion Victorian Transport Plan and involves:
- 27km of freeway standard road;
- Two traffic lanes in each direction;
- On and off ramps to 11 roads including three freeway to freeway connections;
- More than 35 bridges and 18,000m² of retaining walls; and
- High standard urban design, environmental management and community information.
