Calder Freeway/Kings Road Interchange & Duplication Awarded

3 September 2010 - The new interchange will improve safety and traffic flow for vehicles moving on and off the Calder Freeway at Taylors Lakes, while the duplication will cater for the extra drivers expected to use the new interchange to access the Calder Freeway.

Features of the project include:

  • a new Kings Road interchange with a bridge over the freeway and ramps giving access in all directions;
  • extension and upgrading of Kings Road to a four-lane divided road;
  • continuation of the shared bicycle and pedestrian path along Kings Road and over the freeway;
  • new direct access road to Keilor Public Golf Course from the interchange in place of the current freeway intersection; and
  • permanent closure of the Robertsons Road/Calder Freeway intersection.

This $62m project is jointly funded by the Victorian and Australian Governments under the Victorian Transport Plan and as part of the Australian Government's Nation Building Program.

First stage of safety and access improvements along the Calder Freeway between Keilor and Diggers Rest are on track with works scheduled for completion in mid 2012.
