BMD Constructions secures works at Hay Point Expansion

21 December 2010 - BMD Constructions has last week been awarded the contract to deliver reclamation works for the $50m Hay Point Expansion just South of Mackay.

BMD's Group Executive Director - Operations, Scott Power, said the project provides BMD with an opportunity to work on a major BMA site and gain experience in the required Safety, Health and Environment Systems and use of Site Standard documentation.

"This project is one of the first to be award under Bechtel's EPCM for up to $6 billion of other BMA projects and we hope experienced gained will put us in good stead for future mining projects both with Bechtel and BMA."

Scope of works involve:

  • Reclamation of approximately 10.2 ha of land to the Northeast of the existing stockyard area at the Hay Point Terminal;
  • Establishment, operation and decommissioning of a quarry within the HPCT precinct to provide approximately 1.4 mil tonnes of bulk materials for the reclamation works;
  • Haulage and placement of approximately 89,000 m3 of armour rock; and
  • Additional pre-reclamation works including construction of a 3km sealed cartage route; associated stormwater structures, and vehicle overpass.

Works are due to commence in January 2011.
